Whoever said it was a good idea to go to “Lunch League” with your professor and play Basketball for 2:30 – 3:00 hours wasn’t smart. Oh wait…. That was me. Lies, it was a blast, and Lochbaum can definitely play. I mean, I already knew this but I wasn’t expecting him to score so many points on me in our last game. However, I did my fair share of damage. I am quite a bit younger, and more athletic though... Oh who cares! Although, he did take pride in his little push-off that he managed to use on me! Another time I’ll go back out there.
I ran 3 miles with Tori at 9 minute pace, and I felt like I was going to die. Basketball used so many muscles that I don’t use on a normal basis so I was sore and I was having trouble breathing during most of the run. I know that getting this run in will make me feel better than yesterday so I am happy I pushed through and go out there after my class was finished up.
October 26th, 2010, 3 Miles, 18:54 6:17 Pace
Like I said running yesterday made me get through this workout even if it was quite a short one. I ran Farklick of 1 minute on, and 1 minute off. I did a pretty short warm up since I was in a pinch for time and Tuesday night is the night of my bowling league. I’m pretty happy with it though it wasn’t super fast. But I want to have one or two of these in every week to keep myself from getting used to a slower pace. I have to get into shape in quite a hooray! Oh and my warm up was only 0.7 miles!
October 27th, 2010, 10 Miles, 1:05:53, 6:35 Pace
This run will be the crown jewel of the week for sure. I foresee no way that I could possible top this workout just a week and a half into my running. Honestly, I’m not even sure how I managed to pull it out. You won’t see any complaints from me, and this gives me faith that maybe I can return to my previous shape in just 4 months if I can get my mileage higher than it used to be. Since last year at the time of the half marathon I was maybe only running 40 miles a week, and I know to be successful at the distance it takes more than that!
My splits were 7:00, 6:56, 6:57, 6:55, 6:51, 6:33, 6:23, 6:20, 6:05, and 5:45. The last mile of this 10 miler was also the fastest mile that I’ve run since coming back. Okay, okay, it’s nothing to get that excited about since I’ve only been running for maybe 10 days. None the less it makes me quite happy!
October 28th, 2010, 5 Miles, 34:27, 6:53 Pace
I’m surprised that I managed to even run under 7:00 minute pace today. I figured after yesterday I would feel horrendously bad. Granted, I didn’t feel good. I certainly didn’t feel bad though. This was a perfect shake out run. But I ruined any hopes of the shake out by going and playing Basketball.
Paul, and I went to play basketball at the rec center. I mean, we do have to get ready for Basketball season and we started it off with a blast going 6 and 1. Honestly, we shouldn’t even have lost the game that we did but that will come with time. I’m playing pretty well hitting my open mid range jump shot with consistency. Paul though, Paul looks so much more sure of himself this year and it’s great because he gets to the basket so well! This will add a new dimension to our team!
October 29th, 2010, 7 Miles, 58:04, 8:12 Pace
Here is where everything hits me. My body feels really worn out, and Halloween weekend, and my Birthday are coming up so I’m sure I will be heading out to some sort of party. I decided to take it real easy, and honestly that was probably a really good decision anyways. Regardless of what is coming up. I have to allow my body to recover and when I run by myself I forget about that a lot of the time. I won’t do that this time. No injuries just smart running and that comes with listening to my body!
October 30th 2010
I didn’t run this Saturday my body is really tired, and Paul, Chase, Charlie, and I all went to a party. And I probably had a bit much to drink. It was fun to get out of the house and meet a few new people though. Meeting new people is always a plus, and normally a great thing.
October 31th, 2010, 2 Miles 15:00, 7:30 Pace
I got out and ran a couple of miles with Jamal. I’m still super tired. However, I’m completely sure that this will make my body feel better for next week, and I will need it. I plan to up mileage next week since my mileage has been pretty low. But, it’s okay I’m only in my first two weeks back.

First Week
October 18th, 2010 7 Miles, 52:00, 7:25 Pace
I went for a seven miler and it felt okay. Yes, okay, nothing better, nothing worse. Honestly, I couldn’t expect it to be better than this in any form or fashion. It’s been six months of basically no running, and if I did it was never more than twice a week and probably not more than 4 miles. I couldn’t ask for a better way to start though. Throw on the headphones, and feel the freedom of running once again. I thought that I didn’t really miss it. I was just fooling myself though and it took this run to remind myself of why I do it. I do it for myself, and nobody else.
October 19th 2010, 5.3 Miles, 42:00, 7:55 Pace
Of course, I should have expected this day would be a lot worse than the previous run. I go through these pains every time I start back to run. However, it’s never after six months. It was much worse than a normal second day. But I’ve grown accustomed to the pain that I experience during running, and in a way I like it. I don’t like the pain. But I do like the realization that it provides me with. That we are able to push past limits that we may think that we cannot reach. You can always reach for more. I will touch more on that statement at a later day.
October 20th, 2010, 5.2 Miles, 44:15, 8:30 Pace
Now these are the days that I dread. I feel horrible all day long, and then force myself to go run even if I know that maybe I shouldn’t be doing such a thing. I felt light-headed for most of the run, and then even towards the end I began to get dizzy. Thankfully I never strayed too far from the apartment so it turned out just fine. Dizziness always worries me, and most of the time it happens out of my stupidity and I allow myself to get dehydrated,
October 21st, 2010 3 Miles 18:21, 6:07 Pace
Okay, let me begin by saying that this was in no way meant to be a Tempo, or even any sort of workout. I went for this run without checking the weather, and too much my delight cloud cover was moving in. However, I didn’t take notice that these clouds were obviously thunderstorm clouds. Whoops! Okay, its fine it’s just a bit of lightning and rain. Thank goodness, I didn’t bring my IPod! Wait… What just hit me? Yikes, it’s hailing!?!?
Yes, these were my exact reaction and yes it was dime sized hail. So I raced back home, and got back before the storm got really bad thankfully. Of course it didn’t run a run in what would have been great weather.
October 22nd, 2010 5 Miles, 7:00 Pace
This day felt a bit more like my first day back. However, my hamstrings were a little sore from racing the storm back on the 21st. I know that these first couple weeks back will probably be the worst as long as I moved everything along smoothly. I did just get new shoes, and they felt amazing. Now I just need to get new racing flats, as my old ones are completely shot.
October 23rd, 2010, 8 Miles, 53:35, 6:41 Pace
Had a fairly decent progression run considering that it is only the first week back to the run. Nothing barn burning, and really not fast at all compared to a lot of people. I split 7:31, 7:06, 6:46, 6:37, 6:40 (Whoops), 6:31, 6:30, and 5:50. This is my first sub 6 mile. Hooray! As well as my first run under 7 minute pace, but I’m so far away from my previous shape, and hopefully sooner than later I can reach that 1:11:38 half marathon I ran a surpass that. Can I do it in 4 months before Cowtown probably not but I am trying my best. I also cool downed for about ¾ of a mile which was probably a smart idea, and should have been longer but I was dying!
October 24th, 2010, Flag Football
We had our playoff Flag Football game today! We lost 26-19…. I feel that I played pretty well, I had an interception for a touchdown, and a jump ball that I managed to come down with for a touchdown all within 5 minutes. These two TD’s got the game back to 13-13, However, we struggled like always in the second half and didn’t manage to pull it out. At least it was run. Now to look forward to intramural Basketball where we should do better.
